If the problem doesn't go away, it could be an early warning sign of a more serious, larger condition. For example, the penile artery can get narrower because of coronary artery disease or diabetes.

You can usually get an erection within five to 10 minutes of injecting this medicine. Your erection should last between 20 minutes to an hour.
Besides PDE5 inhibitors and among second-line therapies are VCDs which are clear plastic chambers placed over the penis, tightened against the lower abdomen with a mechanism to create a vacuum inside the chamber. This directs blood into the penis. If an adequate erection occurs inside the chamber, the patient slips a small constriction band off the end of the VCD and onto the base of the penis. To diagnose ED, the doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history. They’ll do a complete physical exam to look for signs like poor circulation or nerve trouble. They’ll also check for problems in your genital area that could cause trouble with erections.

The link between chronic disease and ED is most striking for diabetes. Men with diabetes are two to three times more likely to have erectile dysfunction. And it could start 10 to 15 years earlier. But blood sugar control can lower this risk. Any condition that affects the way blood flows through your body could lead to ED. This includes cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), kidney disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Similar to injections, studies show that about half of men discontinue use of this treatment within six to eight months. Side effects can include pain, bleeding at the injection site, urethral pain or burning, low blood pressure, and dizziness.
